It’s a strategy designed to punish Mbilli’s aggressive, high-volume style by capitalizing on openings.

With Crawford now retired and the Argentine national team’s emotional 2026 World Cup campaign in the rearview mirror, Álvarez has emerged as the most important active Latin athlete in the U.S. sports market. But overall, I think it’s gonna be a great fight. Speaking to Ring Magazine, Berlanga looked ahead to the contest, predicting a first stoppage win in almost five years for his former opponent, labelling Mbilli ‘nothing special’. What This Fight Means For The Latino Sports Market

The Cameroonian has won 29 of his 30 professional fights, and he is yet to suffer a defeat. The Mexican’s record is still mightily impressive, having won 63 of his 68 bouts, which includes victories in six of his last seven. A two-time undisputed ruler of the division, Canelo lost all four of his super-middleweight belts to Terence Crawford in an upset defeat back in September, but the 35-year-old is wasting no time trying to reclaim them and is expected to challenge the newly crowned Mbilli next. Canelo Alvarez is set to challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight world title upon his September return and whilst many fans are anticipating an intriguing fight, 168lb rival Hamzah Sheeraz is expecting a statement stoppage. He had a really good fight with Lester Martinez, and Lester’s also a great fighter, so it’ll be interesting to see how Canelo comes back after that beating he took against Crawford. But my focus is always on my preparation, performance, and giving the fans another great night of boxing.
